A Louis XV Period (early Georgian) tapestry woven carpet from Central France. Carpets from the Aubusson Workshops were produced from the 16th century and used widely throughout Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The machine stitched carpets are produced on a computerised sewing machine.
The machine has a maximum stitching size of 6 x 7.75 ins and 28 stitches per ins. This means that some of the larger carpets cannot be machine stitched.
Because they are stitched in machine embroidery cotton the colours may not match the hand stitched carpets exactly.
Even on a sewing machine the larger carpets take up to 14 hours to stitch and involve constant monitoring and the cutting of thread floats between stitching each colour.
